Free Drumming Workshop at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham

Our very own Creative Director, Matt Green, will be giving a workshop on behalf of the Musicians’ Union and B:Music on Sunday 24th July in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham at 11am and it’s FREE!!! This free workshop is open to drummers of all ages & abilities and will be in the Jane How and Justham Family Rooms. Get your FREE tickets here The unique way that these workshops are run allows the participants to learn more than in the average workshop/clinic. Rather than just watching the clinician play and sometimes not learning much, the Matt and the PDC believes the best way of learning is to be involved hence everyone gets their own practice pad to play on. This way it does not isolate anybody at an event, with all levels and abilities being able to play alongside each other. What to expect? When someone attends a PDC Drum Workshop they will get a full experience of world class drumming. Each participant will sit at their own practice pad in which to play alongside the clinician, all they need to do is bring a pair of sticks. Each workshop is aimed towards improving technique, practice methods, tricks of the trade and a Q & A session for all the burning questions people want to ask, no matter how simple or complex. Some of the topics covered will include: • Rudimental practice • Subdivision • Elements of Timing • Moeller Technique • Practice Methods • Playing Musically on the Drum Kit • Stylistic Playing • Historic Drummers More about the Symphony Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, a B:Music venue is the gleaming centrepiece in Birmingham’s Centenary Square, even more so since the completion of its new facade in 2021. Widely considered one of the finest concert halls in the world, Symphony Hall now boasts a café on the stalls level of the redeveloped foyer spaces, serving delicious food and drink throughout the day and before concerts. Fundamentally a hall for music, it was built to be a new home worthy of the CBSO (and first promised to Adrian Boult in the 1920s), complemented by a programme of the world’s greatest orchestras and soloists, which put the city in a strong position in the European classical music scene. From the moment the first notes were heard it was clear Birmingham had commissioned a masterpiece. It was described by the Sunday Times as “an acoustic triumph” and by the Daily Telegraph as “the best concert hall in the country”, a claim Symphony Hall can still justify. Symphony Hall sits within the International Convention Centre and, together, they became a catalyst for the city’s regeneration and economic development, its industrial image giving way to a future focussed on business and tourism. Jane How and Justham Family Rooms at Symphony Hall The Jane How and Justham Family Rooms give stunning views over Centenary Square. The rooms are fully flexible allowing for individual hire or opened into one space suitable for larger events. From board meetings for 20 to a reception for 220, your guests will enjoy the sleek contemporary setting and easy access to hotels, car parks and public transport. bmusic.co.uk/
